Create an overview of the NetBSD src layout The NetBSD Project
Status: Closed Time to complete: 48 hrs Mentors: Aleksej Saushev, Julian Coleman, Julian Fagir Tags: research, overview

There is the manpage hier(7), which describes the directory layout of a running NetBSD system.
To make it easier for beginners to find things inside src, an equivalent document for the sources of NetBSD would be required.

Even if you're not fond with mdoc, researching this and gathering the information (e.g. in plain ASCII or markdown) would be a great benefit, and somebody who likes mdoc can then convert it to a system manpage.

The work on this task is ready to be reviewed.

Julian Fagir on November 30 2012 10:05 UTC Please do also second-level

The committed work is already good (and from what I see, correct); and honestly, I'm astonished by people writing mdoc. :-)

Anyway, could you please also investigate a bit the second-level structures? You don't have to elaborate every single second-level directory, but maybe say in the description of the first-level directories how the subdirectories are organized, as you did with the `external` directory.

Regards, Julian

Just one last request: Please add an AUTHOR and maybe even an HISTORY section (just saying this was created 2012 for GCi)?

S Kinder on December 1 2012 09:56 UTC Ok

I added AUTHOR and HISTORY sections, also I added this file converted to markdown (someone requested that).
