Create NetBSD slide templates (OpenOffice) The NetBSD Project
Status: Closed Time to complete: 24 hrs Mentors: Julian Coleman, Julian Fagir Tags: graphics

NetBSD developers often hold presentations on conferences like the EuroBSDCon, BSDCan, etc.

Your task is to think of a non-intrusive design which still reminds people of NetBSD, but without focussing on that. After that, you create a template that can be downloaded, included and then simply used such that NetBSD presentations have a NetBSD branding.

PJF on November 26 2012 19:09 UTC getting started

hi, i have picked up some art work off the internet (The NetBSD flag logo) not sure, if you want this encorporating into the template, i will have a think about that, from the logo i have picked up some colours

the flag is #F16610

The text is #767676

are these the correct colours and do you have a prefered colour scheme to work with?

Julian Coleman on November 26 2012 21:12 UTC Task Assigned

This task has been assigned to PJF. You have 24 hours to complete this task, good luck!

Julian Coleman on November 26 2012 21:20 UTC Ideas for the slides

There is also (for example):

the main colours are:

  white: #ffffff (background)

  grey: #777777

  orange: #f26711

If you use this, maybe the templace will have a white background, where this could be in a corner?  Or, maybe the grey or the orange would be the backgound (with white text?), so the logo might need to have it's own white square.

Just some ideas, but you don't have to use them.

Good luck!

PJF on November 26 2012 21:45 UTC This is what I'm working on so far

Do you have any feedback on the attached - I realise I've only got 24 hrs and I'm switching off for tonight (UK) - so I can work on this some more tomorrow. Do you need Front Page and Master?  I was thinking of picking up more of the bold colour on a single title page...

try the link below to a Google Doc.

Julian Fagir on November 26 2012 22:46 UTC This looks nice

this looks already very nice for a front page.

For the usual page, something more decent would be good. You don't have to stick to the colours given to you, for the rest of the pages, you could as well use the same colours, but not that bright.

Julian Coleman on November 27 2012 18:54 UTC Wondering how you are getting on

I was just wondering how you are getting on.  The deadline is nearly up for this task and we'd like you to submit something for it.

PJF on November 27 2012 19:19 UTC don't worry

Give me ten minutes just finishing off.

The work on this task is ready to be reviewed.

PJF on November 27 2012 20:13 UTC uploaded otp file

Hi, I've uploaded a template file.

The file also has some example slides using the template.

I've included a colour scheme (the template has some NetBSD colours included)

I've included a couple of title pages and a couple of final pages.

The main body uses the same themed colours, it clean and I hope you don't find the logo  intrusive (I don't think it is).

One title pages is a little untidy because it uses a full graphic (I just didn't have time to cut the SVG down easily InkScape crashed on me whenever I tried to do this).

Please let me know if you need me to make any further tweaks (even if outside of the competion just to incase you want some minor mods!)

Melange on November 27 2012 21:12 UTC No more Work can be submitted

Melange has detected that the deadline has passed and no more work can be submitted. The submitted work should be reviewed.

Julian Fagir on November 28 2012 00:39 UTC Thank you!

thank you! The template looks indeed very nice. I don't know if there is the need for further modifications, but if so - thank you very much for your offer!
