Help create documentation for Iagno GNOME Project
Difficulty: Medium Status: Closed Time to complete: 120 hrs Mentors: Tiffany Antopolski Tags: XML, sudoku, glines, gnome, Documentation, glchess, Mallard, games, iagno, linux
  • Create topic-based help for users of iagno (gnome version of the game also known as Othello or Reversi) (see bug 664950).
  • Propose additional topics that you may think would be useful to users.
  • Fill in stub pages with user help, and/or write your own from scratch. Existing stubs that need content include introduction, game rules, how to play, strategy, two-player game, keyboard shortcuts, and more.
  • Expected results: 5 or more topics fully documented (and attached to the bug in the form of a git format-patch: one patch per topic is preferred). Existing topics reviewed and other topics proposed, if need be.
  • Requirements: install gnome-games and gnome-games-extra, understand the game, a good-command of English and ability to write and explain concepts clearly. An understanding of Mallard, gnome bugzilla and Git is a great asset.
  • Steps:
    • Get the current version of the docs from git.gnome.org by typing in terminal:
      git clone git://git.gnome.org/gnome-games
    • then type:
      cd gnome-games/iagno/help/C
    • and then type
      yelp index.page
    • This enables you to view the current state of the docs using Yelp.
  • I can be found on irc GimpNet (gnome), #docs and #gnome-games.  My nick is mimico.

Hi Allen,

Are you familiar with irc?  I am on GimpNet, #docs and #gnome-games.  Best to talk to me there to make sure you are on the right track :-)  If you are not familiar with irc, let me know, and I will guide you through it.

Talk soon,

Tiffany (mimico)

Hi Allen,

There seems to be a bug in the system and from my end, the button that I am supposed to click to assign the task to you is not visible, and neither is the task description.  As soon as it's back, I will officially assign the task.

quickest way to connect to irc #docs is to click this link: https://cbe003.chat.mibbit.com/?url=irc%3A%2F%2Firc.gnome.org%2Fdocs (choose a nick and click go).  I am in timezone UTC-5, so although I am on the channel (mimico), there is a chance I may not respond immediately.

Cheers,

Tiffany

.. by Tiffany Antopolski January 14 2012 04:25 UTC

irc is where we can talk (internet relay chat):

you should be able to copy and paste this link into firefox:

https://cbe003.chat.mibbit.com/?url=irc%3A%2F%2Firc.gnome.org%2Fdocs

and it will bring you to a website where you can put in your name where it says 'nick' and then click the "go" button. That will bring you into the gnome docs channel.  You will see a list of people on then channel.  I am mimico.  Hope this helps.
