Fix an issue (easy) OpenIntents
Status: Reopened Time to complete: 336 hrs Mentors: Peli Tags: Android, Java

The task is to fix one of the issues from the list of issues.

Your solution should consist of a patch (instructions) based on the latest version of the application. If you dont have it yet, you first need to download and install the Android SDK (instructions). Follow these instructions to build OI applications.

  • Difficulty: easy
  • Time limit: 14 days
  • Prerequisites: Download the Android SDK (instructions)
  • Requirements for completed entry:
    • IMPORTANT: Ask first whether the issue you want to work on is still available and whether you should choose an easy, medium, or hard task.
    • Send in a patch with your code modifications (instructions).
    • The code must follow our StyleGuide.
    • The code must fix the issue.
    • Depending on the number of stars of the issue, select an easy (1 star), medium (2 stars), or hard (3 or more stars) task.

I want to claim the task but 1st i want to build the OI apps. I followed the tutorial what is given in the task info but it does not compile, after i checkout the projects distribution and filemanager for example the build all button is not available. I am using eclipse on OSX.

I was looking at the source code of OI Countdown to find where it will be best to put a toast that will appear if the time is 0s. The problem is that for example in AutomationActions.java there is a long "duration", but I can't use a test case like "if (duration = 0) ..." as I get an error "can't convert long to boolean". I was wondering, is there a better place to place it, I am looking at CountdownEditorActivity.java too, hoping to find a "good place" for the toast. So I want to ask, if you have any better suggestions, in which file to look?

I would put a dialog instead of a toast, because a toast is difficult to read if it is long.


Hm, should this dialog be shown for any kind of automation action? What about recursive timers that run in a circle?


The dialog could contain the workaround mentined in the issue.


I think the most natural place would be right after one set an action, but the time in the widget above is still set to 0:00:00 - what do you think?

Yes, maybe it should be dialog instead of toast, though I'm not sure how to set it to show after user sets an action and time is zeroes?

Ok, creating it. By the way, you don't need a hardware keyboard to use them, you just press MENU and the needed soft key (for example C) and it does it :) I mean Menu + C - copy.

I will unclaim the task, as you said this issue isn't so important and I will just waste a lot of time trying to find a way to make this dialog appear when it must.. without crashing the app...
